Who's behind Visit Katavi?
A few hundred foreign visitors a year, and almost as many outdated flight schedules online. We checked the timetables.
What this site is
Written independently, with no camp or airline paying for a mention. Katavi's problem is not its wildlife but its logistics, and most published advice about flying there is simply out of date.
How we check the logistics
Park fees come from the gazetted TANAPA tariff document itself, with the 18% VAT treatment stated explicitly, and every fees page shows when we last checked it. That matters more for Katavi than for most parks: much of what circulates online about flights and fees here is outdated, from airlines that no longer serve the region to fee increases that never applied to this park.
An unpublished figure stays blank here. Guessing would make this site less useful, not more. Katavi's bird total and its famous hippo superlative are good examples: we tell you what is verified, what is estimate, and what is marketing. Visitor numbers come from the Tanzanian ministry's own statistical bulletin, and flight schedules from the airline's published rate sheet.
