Budget Inside the park Park-run (TANAPA)

A basic government rest house at park headquarters, and at thirty dollars a night it costs less than a thirtieth of the fly-in camps. It is self-catering and simple, but it puts a real roof inside Katavi within reach of overlanders and Tanzanian travellers. Book ahead through TANAPA; do not just turn up.

Why you'd pick it

  • The cheapest roofed bed inside the park by an order of magnitude
  • Bookable through TANAPA's official online reservation system
  • Self-catering: bring everything you need from Mpanda

What the park charges on top

The rate above buys you a bed. Katavi National Park charges its own entry fee for every day you are inside. Here is what that adds up to.

Park entry$30 plus 18% VAT, charged per 24 hours.
$35.4per person, per day
Vehicle$40 plus VAT for a foreign-registered vehicle; a Tanzanian-registered one is about $9.
$47.2per vehicle, per day

Three nights means three days inside, so two adults sharing one vehicle pay $354 in park fees before anyone pays for a bed.

$30 pppn. Official tariff rate, VAT excluded; East African citizens TSh 20,000. Prior booking required via the TANAPA reservation system.

What the rate covers is not confirmed. We do not know yet whether meals, drinks and activities are included, so read this as the bed only.

Every figure on this page is in US dollars.

Indicative 2026/27 rates per person per night sharing, gathered July 2026 from operators' own sites and published trade rate sheets. Katavi camps rarely publish prices directly, so always confirm with the lodge. Watch whether a rate includes the TANAPA fees: conservation fee plus concession fee adds about $70 per person per night incl. VAT at a lodge inside the park.
